GREAT AMERICAN WEST

For over thirty years, my wife and I structured our lives around the open country west of the Mississippi. We ran a commercial studio in St. Louis for five months each year, then loaded our cameras and headed out for weeks of fine art photography across the western states. That rhythm produced the body of work you see here.

This gallery gathers images from Monument Valley, the Tetons, Death Valley, Lake Powell, the Colorado Plateau, and the high desert basins of Nevada and Utah. The West is not a single landscape. It is a collection of distinct regions, each with its own geology, weather, and quality of light. I have tried to respond to each place on its own terms rather than impose a formula.
