CALIFORNIA SEASCAPES
The Pacific coastline has been a counterpoint to my mountain work for more than forty years. Where Yosemite offers granite and vertical drama, the California shore offers tide, fog, and the slow rhythm of waves against rock. I have returned to the same coves and headlands again and again, watching how light shifts with season and how the ocean reshapes the land between visits.
Two bodies of work appear in this gallery. The Rock Covers Paper series studies tide pools, wet stone, and the textures where water meets earth. The 9/9/99 photographs were made on a single remarkable day when conditions along the coast aligned in a way I have rarely seen since. Point Sur Light Station, Big Sur, and the rocky coves of central California appear throughout.
These are quiet pictures. They ask the viewer to slow down and notice what happens at the edge of the continent when the sun is low and the tide is turning.
